Programme

The exhibition allowed for many learning opportunities with the daily 46 workshops, 34 lectures, 16 field trips, 3 demonstrations and above all 52 hands-on exhibitions that were open to drop-in at any time.

Competitions

The Elmore Marshall Science and Technology Trophy was again up for grabs for the winner of the school competitions.

The categories for 2002 were

  • Physics
  • Chemistry
  • Mathematics and Statistics
  • Environmental impact and rehabilitation studies
  • Design, Technology, Innovation and Development
  • Electricity, Electronic and Electrical Engineering
  • Engineering – Chemical, Metallurgical, Mining
  • Engineering – Mechanical, Civil and Industrial
  • Energy

All categories were divided into groups, namely

  • Gr. 5 – 7
  • Gr. 8 – 9
  • Gr. 10 – 12

Lebo RamolahloaneLebo Ramolahloane, St. Andrews was selected as overall winner with his project “What is Biodegradeable Plastic?” in the Gr.8 – 9 Environmental impact and rehabilitation studies category. Mr. Oscar Volkwyn, Manager: Natref, presented the trophy.

Attendance

More than 45 000 learners and 1858 teachers from 438 schools visited the exhibition.

General

Chubb Security provided “round-the-clock” armed guards for the exhibition. No serious incidents were reported.

Sasmove provided the first aid service at the exhibition. This service included a qualified nurse and paramedic
